How to Screed Floors with Self Levelling Liquid Concrete Floor Screed from Ultrflo from Hanlon Concrete in Ireland

How to Screed Floors with Ultraflo Floor Screed

What is Floor Screed by Ultraflo from Hanlon Concrete Ireland?

Floor Screed by Ultraflo is liquid in nature, which flows to give a self-smoothing finish, and is virtually self-leveling. Ultraflo is pump applied and only requires minimal tamping to achieve a smooth level surface that is able to take light traffic after only 24hours.

Unlike anhydrite screeds, ultraflo hemihydrate screed is not subject to formation of any surface layers or laitance.

Floor Screed by Ultraflo is not a cement-based product and is therefore not subject to shrinkage cracking and curling; issues more commonly associated with traditional liquid concrete floor screeds.

As a result its high compressive and flexural strengths our Floor Screed can be installed at minimum depth of 30mm. The shallower depths result in reduced weight and significantly shorter drying times.

How to Screed

Floor Screed from Ultraflo is suitable for most floating floor applications, such as residential, commercial, industrial, health and education. It is inorganic and bacteria resistant which make it the perfect solution for buildings where infection control is paramount, such as hospitals, schools or pharmaceutical factories.

If insulation is to be installed, place it on a clean even bed to prevent movement. Have any pipes (such as Underfloor Heating Pipes) or ducts running through the floor cut out of the insulation so that an even surface is left on top of the insulation. We recommend 5-10mm polyethylene foam expansion strip to the full depth of the floor screed around all walls.

Lay a polythene (minimum 500 gauge) over insulation. We recommend the use of single wound polythene (to avoid creases) and 50mm packing tape. Lay the polythene ensuring that it is free from punctures or creases. Continue the polythene up the face of the wall/upstand and secure with tape to form a watertight seal. Lap joints a minimum of 100mm. To ensure no leakages, thoroughly tape all joints and abutments to ensure a 100% watertight tanking system is achieved. Ensure that all junctions with walls and corner details are constructed neatly with the polythene installed fully into the angle leaving no air pockets or voids. It is critical to ensure the floor is completely sealed, if the ultraflo Floor Screed gets into any holes and gets below the insulation it will float. Floor Screed by Ultraflo is like water and will flow into any gaps or voids.

Why Floor Screed by Ultraflo from Hanlon Concrete

Floor Screed offers superb benefits when used with under floor heating systems. It is a solid high-density screed with a greater thermal conductivity than traditional screeds. As a result of this, under floor heating systems can operate at significantly lower temperatures than those used with traditional screed, to produce the equivalent room temperatures. The liquid nature of the screed enables it to fully encapsulate the under floor heating pipes, to give maximum heat transfer into the screed. Floor Screed by Ultraflo greatly improves the efficiency of under floor heating systems and significantly improves the heat response time.
