Concrete Blocks – Manufacturing Plant
Our concrete blocks are made by Finley and McGirr automatic block making machines. We use the two machines for speed of production so that whenever we have to change moulds we always remain in production. The aggregates used by us are carefully selected to give us a quality textured consistent finish for all our concrete block products. Cement used in our block making plant is from Lagan Cement.
Concrete Blocks – Production Process
Our concrete blocks production process is fully automated using the renowned Pneutrol Ireland Batching Control System which allows only the exact quantities of material into the mixer. These materials are pre-set in the mix recipe which is programmed into the computer at the initial stage and which each concrete block product has its own individual recipe number. The material used by us is mixed by a Teka 3000a pan mixer (which we purchased from Teka machinery limited) which mixes the aggregates cement and water for a specific time. The correct moisture is controlled within the computer batching system by a hydronix moisture unit thus allowing for the correct amount of water to be let into each batch. When mixing time has been arrived at the pan mixer door automatically opens and discharges the mix into a holding bin underneath. This bin holds 4 number pan mixer batches. [Batches can range in size from one and half/one three quarters to 2 metres in volume].
The concrete block operator by means of a push button switch can release the door on the bottom of the holding bin and fill his forklift feeder bin with the concrete block material and then close the door. If the level in the holding bin goes below the probe within the bin it is then topped up again with another batch of block mix thus ensuring a constant fast supply of block making material for speed of production at all times.
During production our technical staff are regularly monitoring both the visual texture and heights of the concrete blocks produced. They take samples of each days production after the blocks of concrete have cured sufficiently at which the curing time being dependent on both the type of product being made and weather conditions at the time. When properly cured they are then strapped by means of a Finlay automatic strapping machine which travels the full length of the row of blocks only needing an operator at the end of the rows to turn it into the next row.
These concrete blocks are then collected off the ground by our forklifts and brought to the stacking area designated for extra curing time. After these newly made concrete blocks have been examined by our quality control department they are then given the all clear for delivery to customers.
